It's that time of year again! When you wake up before the sun shows itself, and then leave work in the dead of the darkness. It's depressing, but knowing that it'll get lighter sooner, is the only reason I tolerate Minnesota year after year.
I'm also temping again, which is good for the money, but taking the train into downtown is a long haul weekday mornings. It's tolerable enough, and the data entry that accompanies it will last just long enough before it drives me crazy. Still working on finding that day job.
Funny how life works itself out without killing you. Usually.
I've also been working on a couple of ideas for my puppetry project. Admittedly, it's been a challenge this last week actually doing the writing and reading necessary, for starting temp work again tends to sap my strength, and lately coming home and playing Baldur's Gate is about all I want to do. Just a matter of establishing those habits again. The very idea of performing puppetry makes me happy, it's all of the prep work and construction that scares me.

sticking it to the man
I told one of my temp agencies to cram it today. Not that dramatic, but it was time to sever the relationship, or what was left of it.

It's quote time!
Zorak: You dance like a woman.
Space Ghost: I dance like a woman... if she were a man!
Zorak: Well... ya got me there.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Zorak: My favorite episode of The Golden Girls is the one where they all took contaminated Geritol and died.
Space Ghost: That was never an episode!
Zorak: Well, it should have been.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Space Ghost: Dennis, you've played a number of cops. Tell us how you came to be Robocop - the ultimate cop!
Dennis Miller: Well, listen, I had, uh, done a one-man show as Peter Weller called "Give 'Em Hell, Peter" for years off-Broadway...
Space Ghost: Hang on, Peter. I'm way too angry to check out each off-Broadway production of "Robocop." I'll wait until it's on-Way!
More Space Ghost fun here.

Bang bang
The roofers hired by the association are working on our quad today, replacing the older shingles for newer ones. Hammer hammer thump thump. At least I have plans today to get out of here. The temp job ended yesterday, and I'm at home being domestic. I'll leave for a bit to go to the apartment and take a load to Goodwill, finish laundry, go to Minneapolis and have a late lunch with John, then stop by the Jungle Theatre to read a script of "Crime and Punishment". I'll audition either next Saturday or Monday. The entire day will then be capped off by a cultural intake of "America's Next Top Model" and "Project Runway".
As with any uncertainty, I have fear of not getting another job soon. Especially since we need to pay our final month of rent over at the apartment this week. No financial break there. As always before, it always works out.
Watched the end of "Roswell" this morning, not the Sci-Fi Channel series, but rather the strange Kyle MacLachlan 1994 movie "based in fact" of the events surrounding the alleged 1947 alien spacecraft crash. Not a well constructed or well written movie by any means, even with the half-hour I spied this morning, but I appreciated a bit of the details given with the characters and events. The puppet aliens constructed for the movie actually looked pretty good. There's always something to appreciate, even with low budgeted alien crash movies.

The house that Jack Somebody-or-other built
It's (almost) official. A house has been purchased and is ready to move in next week! The underwriter called and told us that the approval has been greenlighted for a closing in 5 days. Yowza. It's one of the few adult things that I can lay claim to.
This townhome, built in the 70's, has some remarkably nice features and updated appliances. But we can't wait to rip out some carpeting and put hardwood floors in some key spots. I'm also looking forward to buying some of that insulation foam and filling up a few gaps surrounding the dryer exhaust pipe. Ah, the happy home-fixer...
Packing has been going well, and we are ahead of the game. We plan on using Two Men and a Truck to bring a load of the heavy furniture the two miles to our new place. Boxes should fit nicely in our vehicles otherwise. Serenity now!

new steps and shake-ups
My work day will be cut short soon due to an eye exam follow-up. Most of the day was spent net-surfing as I finished all the calls and updates I could do here at the ol' temp-gig. I tried to figure out what I could do to be productive for my own personal gain, but ended up reading the entry for Dungeons & Dragons and Nethack on Wikipedia. I might bring some writing to do tomorrow if I don't get the next part of my assignment right away. I have an audition tomorrow, too, so that'll eat up some time.
I've been pretty confronted about getting a full-time job, but realize that I'm in no hurry. I just need to be active about finding something that'll work for me and be worthwhile. Something outside of the box that'll contribute to the well-being of my little family. My Equity benefits run out at the end of this month, so I'm getting some new health insurance. Some trendy Medica stuff. I mean, everyone on the brochure looked to be in their mid-20's and healthy enough, able to create fun human pyramids. That *was* me, at one time, in any case (sans pyramids).
